Maths
At Oxley, we want every child to feel confident, successful and enthusiastic about maths. We follow the White Rose Maths approach, teaching through small, carefully planned steps that help children develop a secure understanding before moving on to new learning.
Lessons include a range of practical equipment, visual representations and carefully chosen examples, helping children of all abilities understand mathematical ideas and achieve their full potential. A consistent approach across the school ensures that children can build confidently on what they have previously learnt as they move through each year group.
Mathematical talk and reasoning are an important part of everyday lessons. Your child will be encouraged to explain their thinking, use accurate mathematical vocabulary and learn that mistakes are a valuable part of the learning process. Puzzles, problems and investigations provide opportunities to apply knowledge, explore different methods and deepen understanding.
Regular retrieval practice and supportive, low-stakes quizzes help children remember important knowledge, improve their fluency and identify areas that may need further practice.
Our aim is for every child to leave Oxley with strong mathematical foundations, confidence in their own abilities and the skills to apply their learning successfully—both in the next stage of their education and in everyday life.
