RE
At Oxley, our Worldviews and Cultures curriculum—taught as part of Religious Education (RE)—helps your child explore different beliefs, traditions, cultures and ways of understanding the world.
We want your child to develop a secure understanding of Christianity and other world religions while learning about a range of religious and non-religious worldviews. Children are encouraged to appreciate the rich diversity of our world and to value people whose beliefs, customs and experiences may be different from their own. Through our school values of Be Kind and Be Brilliant, we promote the British values of mutual respect, tolerance and individual liberty.
Our Worldviews and Cultures curriculum gives children opportunities to explore what it means to have a faith or worldview and how these can influence the ways people live, celebrate and understand the world. Children also reflect upon their own ideas, values and experiences, helping them develop curiosity, spiritual awareness and a strong sense of identity and belonging.
This area of learning plays an important part in preparing children for life in modern Britain and our wider global community. It encourages open-mindedness, thoughtful discussion and respect for different beliefs, worldviews and cultures. Learning is brought to life through creative activities, drama, debate, visits, handling artefacts and learning directly from the experiences of others.
Withdrawing your child from RE
Parents and carers have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education. However, we encourage you to speak with us first so that we can explain the educational aims of RE and the content of our locally agreed syllabus.
If your child is withdrawn, the school will provide appropriate supervision but is not required to offer alternative teaching or incur additional costs. Parents and carers should provide suitable work relating to their child’s religious education. Children will usually remain on the school premises unless they are lawfully receiving religious education elsewhere.
